Unique Voices

Edward smashed his fist onto the table, the ripple of frustration giving birth to sheer helplessness. All his life he had relentlessly attempted to do the right thing. Where had it got him? A great reputation for his work, accompanied by commendations, respect from his peers. In his personal life it had driven him on a long lonely road. He had turned away from the one person he had ever loved because his conscious dictated there was no other way to behave.
The only photograph on his desk had fallen. He picked it up and stared at the face looking out from the picture. Those bright crystal blue eyes sparkling like the backdrop of the ocean. The ache rose within him as he glared at the text flashing on phone.
‘Ed, I need you to see you. I’m sorry to do this to you. I need you. Ellie’
Writers are often told their voices need to be unique to be heard through the clamour of everyone wanting to be read. The voice of Edward has chimed in my head for many weeks now and a friend asked how could I write from a man’s view point? I explained that I wasn’t sure but I heard his voice when I was writing and it seemed to make sense to me.
Whether it makes sense to others will be the test when his story is complete. It struck me though that everyone’s voice is unique. We all express ourselves in our own individual way. For some this is easier than others. For others the only way to express is through the written word.
However, sometimes we are unable to cut through the babble to be heard. We have to keep trying. Our voice is a powerful tool and if just one person hears it then a small success has taken place.
In my other other blog createart60 I wrote of magic. Our voices are magic. Soothing, shouty, soft, lyrical so many ways to describe it. It can resound and crash. Be lost in the melee yet it is in a tone, a pitch, that we can turn a head.
I hope you can find your voice and even if it is just a whisper, it’s the beginning. Like the seed in the soil it has to have roots somewhere.
Happy writing
Thanks for dropping by.
