Prickly Pear

Writing, I have known for a longtime is an exercise in endurance and adaptability. For the last week I have been struggling with taking a story about Edward, a character from my first book forward. Growing his story which spoke to me whilst I was writing Daisy’s story.
He is no longer speaking to me but has become my prickly pear. I suspect my angst over trying to find interest in Out of the Blue has something to do with it. I keep re-visiting the original story and tweeking it. Instead of moving on.
Finally, this week, sorting through old family photos, a germ of an idea sprung out at me and it’s game on. Edward may not be for now. His story may have to wait.
In the meantime, Tilly Walker, is the character of the day. She’s lost her job, her place in the world. Unsure of what to do next she is drawn into the family business and uncovers a long held secret. Of course there will be romance. I love romantic stories. Yes, I also adore Jane Austen.
Work in progress but it’s flying for now.
It made me think that characters which grow from our imagination do speak to a writer. We give birth to them and make them whole. Live with them, laugh and cry with them. Lost in the moment of the creation it’s an exciting if not sometimes frustrating place to be.
I love it.
Thanks for dropping by.
